I logged my first dive for the third time today. I’ve paid £3.95 for one month in which time I can log as many dives, write as many stories and make as many changes as I please.

I did something quite cool today. I turned one of my blog posts into a program, using no more than fragment identifiers and a simple Outreach tag to GET user <input> from <form>s.

Improvements both up-front and behind the scenes. This version is approaching completion.

• Liberta’s new certification summary code has been integrated
• Liberta’s new about pages have been integrated

Again! What is this guy on? Aesthetics mostly.

1. A colour scheme and style more pleasing to my eye
2. My certifications are now displayed on the summary page

Hmm… perhaps a version number is in order? Further changes to the on-line dive log.

1. External links now have optional titles, which appear as tool-tips
2. Fishes now have external links and links to FishBase where the scientific name is given

Two major changes to the on-line dive log.

1. I can put external links against people and places e.g. dive 32 on the SS Yongala. Click the » to link to a relevant page. I’m still working on entering the actual links into the database though!
2. Although I don’t have any pictures, the U/W Pictures page now at least lists the marine life I have logged and on which dives.

I’ve done a lot of refactoring on the code which has been fun and has taught me a lot about PHP, a tool for which I have increasing admiration. I am also endebted to the original developers of the dive log, terong.com, whom I wholeheartedly thank for producing such a wonderful base on which to build. I hope that they will choose to incorporate some of my work or ideas into their future releases.

I plan to spend some time adding links to my log before making further changes to the code.

My next task is to adapt the visuals of the dive log to better match my blog. Time for all that studying of CSS2 to pay off. I plan to add links against marine life and dive courses. There’s some minor polishing left also.

Beyond that I’m not sure. But it’s the web. Somebody will think of something. I welcome suggestions.

I’ve not been totally idle over the past few weeks. I’ve been chipping away at the web dive log software, gradually improving the administration interface and front-end until now. I’m happy with the results and ready to share them.

Units are now shown in both metric and imperial. Dives have notes against them.

Still in Sheffield.

Spending as little as possible. A friend has generously allowed us to stay in his apartment until the end of September which provides free accomodation and broadband internet. A lovely music system too.

Finding a job. A little depressing. I’m following the obvious approach and looking for a .Net developer position since that’s my most recent experience. I’ve been using modern technology to find, apply for and discuss jobs. Finding and applying works fine as far as the website is concerned but so far only one irrelevant phonecall from an agent. Back to the old approach - using the phone. My CV also sucks and that can’t be helping matters.
