It’s A Diet Thing, Week 3

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

It’s the end of my third week doing “It’s a Diet Thing”, photos here. Slightly higher alcohol consumption this week but I defend that on the basis that I attended a beer festival on Saturday! Check out the shit I eat at work, though. BMI is stable at around 23.5.

It’s A Diet Thing, Week 2

Continuing to photograph all (or virtually all) my calorific intake. Week 2 has been much better with both alcohol and sugar consumption reduced. Wii Fit says my BMI is ideal at 23.5.

It’s A Diet Thing, Week 1

What a simple idea - photograph one’s calorific intake. Here’s my first week. Slightly embarrassing. I’ve already taken steps to reduce my alcohol consumption.

Watch Me At Work

During working hours, of course! I’m first left on the second desk, in front of the guy with the cool dreads. I’ve moved, see the comments!

Dahab, South Sinai, Egypt

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

Yaaaaaay! Diving again, at last!

We arrived in Dahab late Wednesday night after a 6am start from Sheffield, an uneventful journey to the airport at Sharm el Sheikh and an interesting minibus transfer to our hotel, Bedouin Divers Lodge.

We’ve had four dives so far and one day off due to traveller’s tummy. Dives are planned for this afternoon so I’m taking this chance to get on the internet. I'’ll be writing about the diving on my DiveBuzz pages. My 2007 dives in Dahab on theDiveBuzz.com.

Update 3rd May 2007 We’re back! Look at my feet!

Consolas: A Programmer’s Dream Font, from Microsoft?

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

Yes, indeed. Praise where praise is due. Microsoft has made available for download a Truetype scalable font designed for programmers. It is monospaced, clear, readable and anti-aliases well. I’ve been using it for a while now on both Windows and Linux.

The kicker for programmers is that the punctuation glyphs are oversized, so avoiding the common problem of having to squint at the screen to tell the difference between a comma and a full-stop,

Behold, and download, Consolas. A picture tells a thousand words.

Paul’s SCUBA Review - the movie

Saturday, May 6th, 2006

It’s not an embarrassment to brush up on your diving skills if you’ve been out of the water for a while. It is an embarrassment when your once well-honed demonstration skills devolve to n00b.

A video hides a lot of swearing…

Fan Chart

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

Another Libertus-brand mini-project, inspired by Andy Coltman, this time to draw genealogical fan charts from a web interface.

I shall be using this post as my work notes, so expect many large comments full of nonsense. However, I welcome discussion during this project, so if you can cope with the verbiage, feel free to participate.

I don’t do genealogy at all, so I have no idea what anyone could possibly want from a program that draws fan charts, or whether similar programs already exist. I’m just going to do my own thing, best I can, and teach myself a few new tricks along the way.

A picture tells a thousand words.

How To Store Batteries For Travel

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

Use a rigid, see-through plastic container to store your batteries in your rucksack or case, available for £3.75 from Vapex Technology Limited, with four free Vapextech UK Ltd High Power Consumer Batteries.

Loose batteries can get lost, short against metal and occasionally leak. Worst of all, though, is that loose charged and uncharged batteries can mix. A rigid case solves all these problems, with a simple coloured sticker to indicate charged batteries the finishing touch.

As always, a picture tells a thousand words.
