Rewarding Discussions

Thursday, December 8th, 2005

The advent and continuing maturation of internet technologies, such as blogs, forums and on-line banking, is having a great impact on our daily lives. Never before have we been able to lose ourselves so satisfyingly in that greatest of challenges: the pursuit of cold, hard cash. I have an idea to share that might help.

Before considering participating you must be confident that you are;

  1. knowledgeable on, or able to bullshit about, a range of subjects,
  2. willing, able and competent to participate in rewarding public internet discussion about those subjects, and
  3. serious about making money from doing that, even if only a little and even if you have to help other people to do it.

Today’s Earnings: USD0.00

Monday, December 5th, 2005

Or “Libertus rants on the subject of poverty”.

It may seem like a tiny change to the site but the appearance of that little “Google” logo over the search bar can mean only one thing. Yes folks, I’m getting desperate and I need to get it off my chest. Christmas is approaching. I’ve been back in this country for half a year and can I find work? Can I buggery. So tell me, how does a decent, honest, hard-working, mysteriously odd guy earn a decent, honest living around here? I know for sure it would be simpler in Malaysia and wouldn’t involve lowering my standard of sexual and intellectual behaviour.

Cue Prokofiev’sTroika“!

Sigh. 30°C and sunny in Kuala Lumpur.

Update 8th Feb 2007

While posting pictures of 2007 snow, I remembered a picture I took of 2005 snow.

Sellout

Tuesday, November 1st, 2005

Without hesitation I recommend to my valued readers two application programs of great worth; the web browser Mozilla Firefox and the e-mail client Mozilla Thunderbird. I use both and am happy with their performance.

After some thought I decided to carry Ads by Google. Although theoretically one can profit from such an arrangement, I doubt that will be my result. I’ve done it more out of curiousity than avarice. Click if you want, but not on my behalf.

Connected!

Friday, October 14th, 2005

We have broadband again. Such relief. Many thanks to the fine, upstanding people at Telewest BlueYonder. Now all we need is a router so Liberta can use it too :-P .

Update @ 19:30: I duly acquired a Belkin wireless-g router from PC World at a very good price - 40 quid.

Randi Removed

Friday, September 9th, 2005

I have removed the link to James Randi’s site. I have decided that he is not a very nice man and that he is not running an educational foundation.

You may remember that I said I may post a piccie of my suntan. This has been done. See it here if you dare!

Blog Spam

Sunday, December 5th, 2004

Sigh… some people will do anything to sell their shite. Both Liberta’s blog and mine have been the subject of comment spamming. I’ve deleted all the spam but it’s likely to happen again as it appears to be coming from a distributed source i.e. a collection of compromised computers.

I have not, as yet, disabled the commenting feature but may have to for a while if the attack continues. And it is an attack, somthing which I’m sure the spam mastermind appreciates. That’s why they have to be found and summarily executed.

And also, who in their right mind would gamble on-line? Surely that’s even worse than paying for porn with a credit card. Don’t do it, people.

I Don’t Like It, But I’ve Done It Anyway

Thursday, November 25th, 2004

Stopping smoking, that is. It is not an enjoyable process but it is worthwhile. The remnants of the craving remain but not enough to tip my balance of will in its favour. A few more days and I should be clear.

I think the main downside of not smoking is the return of more my sense of smell. Sometimes the world isn’t a nice place to sniff and I’m not talking about second-hand smoke. I’m talking about car fumes, people with insufficient personal hygiene and the greatest evil of them all - perfume, whether on women or men.

I’ll get used to them all I’m sure!

Still no diving due to the unusually bad weather here on the Gold Coast. Seriously considering just getting out of here and forgetting about the diving course. Did more snorkel practice and read more of Liberta’s book about the history of international affairs between 1920 and 1939. Very interesting to discover how old the current conflicts really are.

Silly Questions

Friday, September 3rd, 2004

Why does the mass media ask such silly questions? I caught the front cover headline for the current BusinessWeek which reads Is Japan Back?

Well, is it? Either they know the answer, in which case the headline is deceptive and should read Japan Is Back or they don’t know the answer, in which case they have no way of finding out being a one-way medium. Do they expect readers to write in? Is it a poll?

Malaysian newsapers don’t do this. I do not recall seeing any headline questions although I’ll check with Liberta.

The media are supposed to answer the questions they think their readers are asking, not ask their readers questions they couldn’t possibly answer themselves. Grrrrrr. Someone, please make them stop!

Update
I figured it out. Pretty simple really. An article that has a question as its headline is opinion, not news.
